When can I plant the Emerald Grass?

The Emerald Grass can be planted at any time of the year, since it is very resistant to the cold and heat.

How can I plant the Emerald Grass?

Before receiving the grass: Prepare the site where the grass will be planted removing all kinds of weeds, stones, dirt, and debris. Try to prepare the soil more uniformly as possible without unevenness and small bumps. No prior fertilization of the soil is necessary, however, depending on the region, the consultation of an expert in soils or an agricultural engineer is recommended to check and analyze the soil before planting.

The transportation of the grass: Normally, the Emerald Grass is transported as carpet tile rolls of 40 cm x 125 cm (16” x 49”). In this way, besides making it easier to plant, it also avoids damages to the grass that can be transported at long distances.

Transportation of Emerald Grass to Curitiba

Receiving the grass: Once the grass is unloaded from the truck, it has to be planted immediately after and the grass carpet tiles should be placed side by side. The small pieces of grass can be used to fill in the gaps between the grass tiles. All the planted area should be covered with earth after planting is completed.

Once planted, the Emerald grass should be watered heavily and daily in the first 30 days after the completion of the planting.

Once the grass has been well settled and adapted to the ground: the Emerald grass can be watered time to time, preferentially using an automatic irrigation system to avoid excessive loss of water and optimize the homogeneous irrigation of the lawn.

Grass trimming: the Emerald grass can be trimmed when the grass reaches 2 to 3 cm (0.8” to 1.2”) of height.

Fertilization: the Emerald grass does not require constant fertilization. Furthermore, the fertilization of the lawn at Fall or Winter is not necessary since the grass tolerates well the intense cold and will keep dormant at these time of the year.

Recommended care

The Emerald grass can be planted under plain sunshine, at fertile soils, with biannual fertilization and regular watering, preferentially in the morning.

It is not indicated for places with intense circulation of people and cars and at shaded areas.

The Emerald grass grows by the division of enrooted rhizomes.

The Emerald grass must be trimmed always when it reaches 2 to 3 cm (0.8” to 1.2”), and should not be cut more than 1/3 of its height. We recommend the grass trimming during spring time. After the removal of the dead cut leaves, the grass will present a more vivid green color.

The ideal pH of the soil for Emerald grass should be around 6.0 to 6.5 (slightly acid).

Weeds and Emerald Grass

The Emerald grass is very resistant to weeds.

If at the time of planting there are some few weeds on the area, the tendency is for its disappearance with the growth of Emerald grass, since this grass forms a very dense carpet when compared to other grasses, which prevents the growth and multiplication of weeds.

However, if the area where the grass will be planted is infested with a lot of weeds, it is recommended to treat the area by removing all weeds possible before planting the grass.

I was in doubt about the name of the Japanese grass. I actually was confused with the Korean Velvet grass. Looking at both the information about these grasses, now I know how to differentiate them. Thanks a lot for posting this!

I was looking for Emerald Grass to buy here in Boston region and I was browsing the producers around here. I was in awe to see that this type of grass is produced and sold in Brazil. If you could ship it to Boston, I'd like to order about 10,000 sq feet.

Thank you for publishing this website. Very nice!
